Emperor Nerva Statue

Emperor Nerva - the first of 'The Five Good Emperors' of Rome (96-98AD).

He was the first to be elected by the Senate and granted Glevum (Roman Gloucester) Colonia status – the highest rank a provincial settlement could achieve in the Roman Empire.

He was the adoptive father of the great Emperor Trajan, who was in turn succeeded by Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius. This period was seen as a high point of the Roman Empire.
