Dock's Railway
Throughout the docks, you will have noticed small sections of railway track. In the 19th century, the Midland Railway and Great Western Railway companies built tracks at the docks to transport goods, initially carried by water, further inland to the Midlands.
Though locomotives were sometimes used to move goods on the main lines, horses were often preferred as they were able to take the corners around the buildings with ease.
Other than the surviving tracks, you will also have noticed the two cranes and the train wagons that remind us of when this was a working dockyard.
