The Cross
Where the four ‘Gate Streets’ meet. Named after a large stone cross which marked the spot from as early as the thirteenth century.
The cross also acted as a conduit, supplying spring water to the citizens of Gloucester.
It is said that at times of celebration that wine pumped through the conduit instead of water!
There is a replica of the Cross at the City Museum & Art Gallery on Brunswick Road.
